What if I'm racist? Diversity and OCD Populations

Course Objectives:
- Discussion of CBT and ERP for OCD and anxiety. Discussion of taboo OCD themes, including, religious, racial, sexual orientation, and politcal themes.
- Discussion of assessment and what to consider for developing exposures. Balancing what is challenging and appropriate for patients and respecting the community and minorities (SO-OCD and LGBT+ issues, cleaning up after using raw chicken, privacy and confidentiality, etc.).
- Review case examples with ethical considerations and questions to consider while treatment planning.
A bit about our presenters:

Dr. Emily Anderson obtained her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2008, where she received broad training in cognitive-behavioral treatment. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Children’s Mercy Hospital & Clinics and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Yale University Child Study Center, where she specialized in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and tic disorders. Dr. Anderson worked as a clinical psychologist at the McLean OCD Institute at Houston (formerly the Houston OCD Program) for 10 years. In this role she worked with adult residents and intensive outpatients with severe OCD and anxiety disorders, as well as outpatients of all ages. In 2020, Dr. Anderson transitioned into the role of Clinical Consultant for the McLean OCD Institute at Houston and opened a private practice, Emily Anderson, PhD, PLLC. She sees children, adolescents, and adults with OCD and related disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and body focused repetitive behaviors.

Melissa Fasteau, PsyD is a licensed psychologist in private practice, specializing in treating OCD, anxiety disorders, and BFRBs in adolescents and adults. She has experience treating individuals at the residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels of care. She earned her PsyD from Yeshiva University and completed training at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Houston OCD Program (now McLean OCD Institute in Houston). Dr. Fasteau is currently serving as the Secretary of OCD Texas.

Saharah Shrout, MA, LPC-S is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in private practice, specializing in treating OCD, anxiety and related disorders for adults and adolescents. Saharah received her BA in Psychology and Sociology and MA in Christian Counseling from Houston Baptist University. She was trained at The Menninger Clinic OCD Program and went on to become the Program Manager of the Houston OCD Program where she worked in outpatient, intensive outpatient and residential treatment settings. Saharah is an advocate for increasing public awareness about proper treatment for OCD and anxiety disorders and strives to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness.

Christen Sistrunk, MA, LPC-S is a founder, Clinical Director and Behavior Therapist at the Houston Center for Valued Living, where they offer outpatient and intensive-outpatient treatment for individuals of all ages. She specializes in working with clients that have OCD, BFRBs, Anxiety Disorders, Phobias, Depression and Tourettic-OCD utilizing evidence-based approaches. Christen has completed SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) a treatment approach for parents of children with anxiety, phobias and OCD. She is a graduate of the IOCDF's BTTI (Behavior Therapy Training Institute) training. Christen currently serves as the Houston Ambassador for OCD Texas, a state affiliate of the IOCDF.
Three (3) hours of CE credit will be given at the conclusion of the event. Only one certificate will be given per person, and you must be present the entire time to receive the certificate.
