Human Trafficking: Raising Awareness to Identify
and Respond to Victims in the Clinical Setting
(Understanding the Issue Domestically and Internationally
for Recognition, Referral and Restoration)
Goals
- Equip medical professionals to identify potential signs of human trafficking in Victims who Present for Care In a Medical Setting
- Summarize immediate health care needs of identified victims
- Integrate multi-disciplinary care models to aid in victim recovery
- Discover available resources for victim rescue and aftercare
- Recognize the medical professional’s role in prevention, treatment, advocacy and aftercare
Kerri Taylor is the Executive Director of Unbound Now Houston. In addition to being a member of the Child Sex Trafficking Team’s Advisory Council for Harris County, Kerri serves on the board of the Brazoria County United Front Coalition to Fight Human Trafficking. She works closely with the No Trafficking Zone and NRG stadium as Unbound Now provides advocates onsite at every Texans Home football game. Kerri serves alongside other advocates in Galveston County and Brazoria County as a coordinated response protocol is being developed for identified victims of human trafficking in cooperation with the Texas Governor’s Child Sex Trafficking Team.
Kerri earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University where she majored in Education with a specialization in speech pathology and audiology. She subsequently earned her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. She is a retired speech/language pathologist whose private practice specialized in treating adult neurogenic disorders children ages 0-3. In 2019 she was named Galveston County’s woman of the year by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce. Texas Nurse Practitioners recognized her as one of the nominees for the 2020 Texas Nurse Practitioner’s Visionary Award, stating she was a leader and valuable partner to the healthcare system.
